Thailand’s Ministry of Science and Technology has held a seminar on the importance of newly discovered species to raise awareness of environmental conservation in the so-called Thailand 4.0 era.
The seminar publicized the discovery of 73 plant and animal species in Thailand and nearby countries, fostering public interest in learning about nature and environmental conservation.
The recently discovered species include 22 types of ants found in Southeast Asia, nine of which were found in Thailand. One of the ant genera, Cladomyrma sirindhornae, was named for Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Thailand’s National Science Museum has also produced an exhibition of the new species.
