Commerce Ministry plans to strengthen Thai-German cooperation

The Ministry of Commerce plans to strengthen cooperation between Thailand and Germany with the use of the latter’s advanced technology and innovation.

Commerce Minister Sonthirat Sonthijirawong held talks with German Ambassador to Thailand Peter Pruegel on the improvement in bilateral trade and investment.

They discussed advanced technology and innovation in which Germany is known to have expertise.

Thailand and Germany enjoy a long, bilateral trade and investment with German investors being one of the major investors in Thailand. Both sides have agreed that the FTA between Thailand and the European Union is a key mechanism which will contribute to trade growth, and embraced the decision by the EU to restore political relations with Thailand.

Germany is considered a model country for the Industry 4.0 goal which complies with that of Thailand in the bid to drive forward the national economy with the use of advanced technology and innovation.

The commerce minister encouraged German businesspersons to invest in the Eastern Economic Corridor project in Thailand, while the German private sector has expressed interest to invest in automobile industry, particularly in the manufacturing of hybrid vehicles, and well as to promote cooperation in agriculture and related fields to raise the values of agricultural products and generate more incomes to Thai farmers.
